Car hits multiple objects in morning crash

LAKE OF THE OZARKS – A number of accidents took place last week sending several to the hospital.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) the first one took place on Sunday July 7 at 9:45 a.m. when a 2004 Lincoln Town Car, driven by Edward Whitcomb, 88, of Lee’s Summit, MO, was traveling south on Three Seasons Road in Camden County, when he had an “unknown medical episode.”

The vehicle went off the left side of the road, hit a fence, a porch, a parked car and another fence, a boat trailer and a tree before coming to rest. 

Whitcomb suffered minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to Lake Regional Hospital in Osage Beach, MO. He was not wearing a seat belt. The Lincoln was totaled in the crash.

The next day at 9:04 a.m. an accident involving four vehicles sent three to the hospital.

The incident occurred on Highway 5, south of Harvest Road in Camden County.

A 2014 Ford F150, driven by Orbie Wallace, 88, of Climax Springs, MO, was northbound when the truck went across the center of the road and hit an oncoming 2023 Nissan Rogue, driven by Jesse Sims, 41, of St. Louis, MO, who went off the left side of the road.

The truck then hit a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado being driven by Austin Campbell, 23, of Linn Creek MO, who went off the right side of the road and overturned.

The truck continued and went off the left side of the road and hit another southbound vehicle, a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by Timothy Campbell, 56, of Linn Creek, MO.

Timothy Campbell and Austin Campbell had minor injuries and were taken by private vehicle to Lake Regional Hospital in Osage Beach, MO.

Wallace had moderate injuries and was taken by ambulance to Lake Regional Hospital. All involved were wearing their seat belts.

The 2023 Chevrolet Silverado, Nissan Rogue and the F150 were totaled. The 2024 Silverado had extensive damage.

Later that evening in Miller County (11:55 p.m.) a single-vehicle accident sent two to the hospital.

The MSHP reported that a 2017 Lincoln MKX driven “at a high rate of speed” by Austin Newcomb, 22, of Eldon, MO, and went off the right side of the road, began to skid and hit a tree.

Newcomb suffered serious injuries and was transported by MU Air Care to University Hospital. He was not wearing a seat belt.

A passenger in the vehicle, Maggie Stevens, 19, of Lake Ozark, MO, also had serious injuries and was taken by EMS to Lake Regional Hospital. She was wearing a seat belt. The Lincoln was totaled in the accident.

Newcomb was charged with the following:

  1. Careless and Imprudent Driving Involving a crash
  2. No Seat Belt
  3. DWI – Alcohol
  4. DWI – Alcohol – Serious Physical Injury

He was released for medical treatment.

Last Wednesday (July 10) another single-vehicle accident also sent two to the hospital.

At 9:20 a.m., a 2022 Subaru Legacy, driven by Amy Craddock, 64, of Fulton, MO, was traveling west on Highway 54 west of Kissick Way in Camden County, when the vehicle hit a deer.

Amy Craddock and a passenger in the vehicle, Michael Craddock, 72, also of Fulton, MO, had minor injuries and were taken by ambulance to Lake Regional Hospital. The Subaru had moderate damage.

The MSHP did not release the condition of the deer.

About three hours later (12:30 p.m.) in Miller County, a two-vehicle accident injured two people.

According to the MSHP, Yvonne Rayhart, 81, of Olean, MO, was driving a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox northbound on Highway 87 near Lions Road when a 2008 Dodge Avenger, driven by Zander Berkstresser, 18, of Stover, MO, pulled out in front of her and was hit.

Rayhart had moderate injuries and was taken by EMS to Capitol Region Medical Center in Jefferson City, MO.

Berkstresser had minor injuries and refused treatment at the scene. Both were wearing their seat belts and both vehicles had extensive damage.

A single-vehicle accident sent a Kansas City man to the hospital last Thursday.

At 2:14 a.m., Brandon Tuley, 39, of Kansas City, MO, was driving a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix north on Highway 7 south of Granger lane in Camden County, when the car failed to negotiate a curve, began skidding and went off the left side of the road, hit an embankment and overturned.

Tuley received minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to Lake Regional Hospital. It was unknown if he was wearing a seat belt. The vehicle was totaled in the crash.

At 4:25 a.m., Brandon Tuley was charged with the following:

  1. Driving While Suspended – 2nd or Subsequent Offense
  2. Failure to Comply with Ignition Interlock Requirements
  3. Fail to Drive on Right Half of the Roadway Involving a Crash
  4. No Insurance
  5. Fail to Display Valid Plates.

He was released for medical treatment.

A two vehicle accident last Friday sent one to the hospital.

According to the MSHP, at 12:40 p.m. a 2003 Kawasaki YFM 66R was being driven by Michael Moulder, 40, of Montreal, MO, south in the northbound lane of Franklin Drive, south of Route A.

At that time a 2002 Mazda Tribute, driven by Chelsea Lewis, 18, of Linn Creek, MO, was northbound in the northbound lane.

The front right of the Mazda hit the front right of the Kawasaki which went off the east side of the road.

Moulder suffered minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to Lake Regional Hospital. He was wearing a helmet and Lewis was wearing her seat belt. Both vehicles had moderate damage.
