‘Suspicious’ fire destroys Greenview building

CAMDEN COUNTY – A Greenview business is a total loss after a suspicious fire tore through the structure last week.

On June 7, the Mid County Fire Protection District (MCFPD) was dispatched to a report of a structure fire near the Highway 5 and 7 junction.

Responding units could see a large smoke column from several miles away. First arriving units found a single story structure that housed a residence and a used tire business fully involved.

Units also found several burning vehicles, numerous burning tires and a burning fuel tank. Firefighters made an attack on the fire using several hose lines and were able to bring the fire under control in approximately 30 minutes. There was no one at the structure when fire units arrived and there were no injuries.

An adjacent auto repair business suffered exterior wall damage due to radiant heat.

The initial structure suffered extensive fire damage and is a total loss.

The MCFPD responded with an engine, three tankers and a ladder truck and were assisted on the scene by an engine from Sunrise Beach Fire District, a tanker from the Northwest Fire Protection District and a tanker from the Osage Beach Fire Protection District.

A Lake West Ambulance stood by during the fire and deputies from the Camden County Sheriff’s Office provided traffic control as one lane on North 7 was blocked during the incident.

The cause of the fire is suspicious and currently being investigated by the Mid County Fire Marshal and the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
