Keep an eye out for ‘Plow Chicka Plow Plow’
OSAGE BEACH – Asking the public to name a vehicle can be fun, entertaining and possibly controversial depending on the names suggested.
The city recently held a contest to name the city’s snowplows.
The idea let the public name something has been done before in various parts of the world with one of most humorous ones being in Britain.
They were building a new royal polar research ship which was going to cost around 200 million pounds (around 248 million dollars by today’s exchange rate) so the public was asked to come up with names.
One suggestion by BBC Radio Jersey presenter James Hand was Boaty McBoatface. People loved the name and it easily won the contest.
The top five suggestions and the votes were:
RRS Boaty McBoatface - 124,109
RRS Poppy-Mai - 34,371
RRS Henry Worsley - 15,231
RRS It’s Bloody Cold Here - 10,679
RRS David Attenborough - 10,284
However, lacking a sense of humor, Jo Johnson, Minister for Universities and Science announced that the ship would be named Sir David Attenborough. Boaty McBoatface was attached to one of the automated submersibles that would be aboard that ship.
The Osage Beach contest brought in 250 names and over 2,300 people voted and the name with the most votes was Snowderboatin’ suggested by “Mark”.
Coming in at number seven was “Plow Chicka Plow Plow” suggested by “Erika”.
The top seven and the first name of the person who suggested that name is:
The winning names will now be proudly displayed on plows serving different areas of the city.
“We encourage residents to keep an eye out for their favorite named plows as they hit the streets during the next winter storm,” said Public Works Manager Zak Wilber. “While winter weather can be tough, we hope this contest brings a little humor to the season. Our crews work hard to keep roads safe, and now they’ll be driving plows with names chosen by the very community they serve.”
The city gave a big thanks to everyone who participated.
