Afternoon fire destroys Linn Creek home

LINN CREEK – There were no injuries in a house fire that occurred last Monday (January 6).

Just after 3:00 p.m., firefighters from the Osage Beach Fire Protection District (OBFPD) were dispatched for the sound of popping behind a home in the area of Winterwood Loop in Linn Creek.

One minute later, Osage Beach dispatchers upgraded the alarm to a 1st alarm assignment which brought additional crews from the Mid-County Fire Protection District, Lake Ozark Fire Protection District and Sunrise Beach Fire Protection District.

Due to icy road conditions fire crews had an extended response time and arrived on scene in 16 minutes.

Chief 4 reported heavy fire conditions coming from multiple sides and levels of the two-and-a-half story building.

Engine 12 arrived shortly after and placed hose lines in service.

An aggressive interior attack was made by fire personnel but crews were forced to exit due to excessive heat and fire conditions that were not improving.

Fire crews switched to a defensive operation and once conditions improved, reentered the structure.

The fire was knocked down within 45 minutes of arrival.

Due to no hydrants in the area tankers were utilized to haul water from Mexicali Blues.

The OBFPD was assisted on scene by Mid-County Fire Protection District with two tankers, Lake Ozark Fire Protection District with an engine and an ambulance from the Camden County Ambulance District.

Crews operated on scene for three hours before clearing.

Sunrise Beach Fire Protection District provided station coverage and handled one incident while OBFPD operated at the fire.

There were no occupants home at the time of the fire and no firefighter injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the OBFPD Fire Marshall’s office.
