Another drowning, this time at public beach

LAKE OF THE OZARKS – An Illinois man drowned last Saturday at Public Beach number two.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) at 11:16 p.m., a 19-year-old man from Glenwood, IL, entered the water by an unknown means and did not resurface.

He was pronounced dead at 1:50 a.m. by Camden County Medical Examiner Andrew Hall. He was not wearing a life jacket.

This is MSHP Troop F’s fourth drowning for August and all of them took place at Lake of the Ozarks.

The MSHP refused to release the name of the victim.

The week started off with a woman seriously injured after being crushed.

On Sunday August 24 at the 8 Mile Marker of the main channel in Camden County, a 58-year-old female from Junction City, KS, was attempting to tie up a 2005 Sea Ray 40 foot boat when the boat drifted and crushed the victim between the vessel and the dock.

She received serious injuries and was taken by ambulance to Lake Regional Hospital.

The MSHP refused to release her name.

Last Saturday at 2:52 p.m., a 2023 Landau Pontoon, driven by a 22-year-old male from Omaha, NE, at the six Mile Marker of the Big Niangua Arm in Camden County, put the vessel in reverse instead of forward and had hit a 33-year-old female swimmer, also from Omaha, NE (who was swimming behind the pontoon) with the prop.

She received serious injuries and was flown by MU Air Care to University Hospital. She was wearing a life jacket.

The MSHP refused to release her name.
