Roach man drowns after falling in water

LAKE OF THE OZARKS – A Roach man drowned last Wednesday morning in Camden County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) at 10:27 a.m. at the 3.7 Mile Marker of the Little Niangua, an 82-year-old male from Roach, MO, fell into the water from a dock for an unknown reason and drowned.

He was recovered in approximately eight feet of water by the Mid-County Fire Protection District Dive Team and pronounced dead by Camden County Medical Examiner Bobby Campbell at 11:11 a.m. He was not wearing a life jacket.

This is Troop F’s third drowning for May and number five for 2026.

The MSHP refused to release his name.

The only other incident on the lake last week reported by the Highway Patrol was a grounding that took place on Memorial Day (Monday May 25).

At 11:30 a.m. at the 38.8 Mile Marker, a 42-year-old male from St. Joseph, MO, was driving a 1990 Wellcraft Scarab north when he struck a partially submerged log while underway.

The driver suffered minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to Lake Regional Hospital. He was not wearing a life jacket.

Four juvenile males were also in the boat and had the following injuries. All were from St. Joseph, MO.:

All the juveniles were taken by ambulances to Lake Regional Hospital. None of them were wearing a life jacket.

The boat had moderate damage.

The MSHP refused to release the name of the driver.
