MSHP: car caught on radar doing 188 MPH

MILLER COUNTY – A St. Louis man is in jail with no bond after being caught on radar doing 188 MPH, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP).

According to the Probable Cause Statement (PCS) submitted to the court by the Trooper and a Miller County Sheriff’s Deputy, the incident started last Tuesday (October 29).

At 2:39 p.m., a MSHP Officer observed a dark colored 2014 Porsche Boxster traveling at a high rate of speed on eastbound Highway 54 near Isleworth Avenue. The officer checked the speed of the Porsche and found it to be going 88 MPH in a 65 MPH zone.

“I activated my emergency equipment and began attempting to catch the violator. Trooper S. Mahaney advised me he had checked the vehicle speed at 122 miles per hour at Route W on US-54 Eastbound. I proceeded in catching up to the vehicle at Allen Road and US-54,” the PCS said.

Once the officer was in view of the suspect the Porsche began to accelerate away from the officer at a high rate of speed, overtaking other vehicles on the highway.

The PCS continued: “I checked the speed on my radar and observed the speed of the vehicle to be 186 miles per hour and my patrol car speed to be 120. I reactivated my radar for a second time in disbelief checking the speed of the vehicle to be 188 miles per hour.”

The Porsche exited on Highway 52 east and the high-speed pursuit continued. It was at this point that the Trooper stopped the pursuit “to reduce the risk of death or serious physical injury to innocent bystanders.”

Highway 52 east leads in to Tuscumbia and right past the Miller County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO). They were notified and deputies responded.

The PCS from the MCSO picks up the story.

“Deputies responded to Hwy 52 and Versailles Ave to stage because the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that a blue Porsche was headed east on Hwy 52 at a high rate of speed.

“As the vehicle approached I confirmed his speed on stationary radar doing 74 mph in a 55 mph zone. I had my vehicle overhead lights already activated when he approached. I followed behind the vehicle activating my siren. The Porsche failed to yield, speeding up and reaching speeds of approximately 100 mph, passing two vehicles.”

Two other deputies staged at Tuscumbia Cemetery to deploy spike strips. The driver of the Porsche, later identified as Brennan Christopher England, 37, of St. Louis, MO, attempted to avoid the spike strips, lost control of the vehicle and crashed at the intersection of Highway 52 and Merle Avenue, several hundred feet from a school zone and a crossing near the Tuscumbia School.

England, who was wearing seat belt, said he was uninjured and refused medical treatment but the MCSO took him to the hospital to be checked out anyway.

According to the MCSO PCS, in a post-Miranda interview, England said he was just out for a drive.

England was charged by the Miller County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office with two counts of Aggravated Fleeing a Stop or Detention (Felony). He is being held at the Miller County Adult Detention Center with No Bond Allowed.

The Porsche was totaled in the crash.

The MCSO reminds people that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
