Sprinklers stop condo fire

CAMDEN COUNTY – A possible condominium fire was snuffed out early thanks to a sprinkler system and firefighters.

Last Friday at 12:17 p.m., the Mid-County Fire Protection District (MCFPD) was dispatched to a fire and sprinkler alarm sounding at Bella Sera Condominiums at 3168 Twin Rivers Point Road in Greenview.

While firefighters were responding to the fire, 911 Dispatch received another call indicating there was smoke coming from a second-floor balcony.

Firefighters arrived to find a fire burning on the second floor inside an exterior balcony wall. The sprinkler system had activated and kept the fire from spreading to the balcony.

Firefighters removed the interior and exterior wall sheeting to access the fire, which was brought under control within 30 minutes.

Fire and smoke damage were contained to the first, second and third floors exterior balcony wall. All firefighters cleared the scene at 1:39 p.m.

The MCFPD responded with two engines, a tanker, a ladder truck and a fireboat. They were assisted on scene with an engine from the Sunrise Beach Fire Protection District and from the Camden County Sheriff’s Office and the Camden County Ambulance District.

Additionally, an engine from the Osage Beach Fire Protection District responded to MCFPD Station 1 in Camdenton to cover additional calls in the Fire District.

The fire was investigated by the MCFPD Fire Marshal and the cause was determined to be sparks from a saw that ignited the wall interior causing the fire.

There were no injuries as a result of the fire.
