Fire tax issues pass in August 7 Primary election

LAKE OF THE OZARKS – There were no major surprises in Camden, Miller or Morgan Counties in last week’s primary election but some of them will face off against a candidate from the opposing party in November.

Camden County – Unofficial results. (As of press time the votes had not been certified. Camden County Clerk Rowland Todd said there were only five or six votes that may be added to a candidate’s tally, which will not change any of the results).

Presiding Commissioner

Current incumbent Republican Greg Hasty received 4,298 votes against challenger James Rericha, who brought in 3,856.

Hasty will face off in November against Democrat Sherri Gaddy (who ran alone on the Democrat ticket and received 1,860 votes) and Libertarian candidate Marshall Peterson, who received 21 votes.

County Clerk
Republican incumbent Rowland Todd beat challenger Ernest Calvert in the primary. Todd received 5,324 votes and Calvert received 2,681.

Todd will face Libertarian candidate James O’Brien (who received 21 votes in the primary) in November.

There were no Democrat candidates on the ballot for this office.

Circuit Clerk
Jo McElwee (incumbent) won the Republican nomination (4,327 votes) against challenger Melissa Mackay (3,765 votes).

Joanne Bodziony won the Democrat ticket with 1,699 votes.

County Recorder
Current Republican incumbent Donnie Snelling easily beat challenger Bernie Mowinski with 6,676 votes to Mowinski’s 1,193.

There were no Democrat candidates on the ballot for this office.

Running unopposed, the following candidates won their primary. All are Republican. There were no Democrat candidates on the ballot for any of these offices.

• Prosecuting Attorney – Heather miller with 6,698 votes
• County Auditor – Jimmy Laughlin with 6,737 votes
• County Collector – Teresa Murray with 6,761 votes

The effort by the Mid-County Fire Protection District to raise taxes was successful. That ballot asked the question:

“Shall the Board of Directors of the Mid County Fire Protection District be authorized to levy an additional tax of not more than nineteen cents on the one hundred dollars assessed valuation to provide funds for the hiring of additional firefighters and for the support of the district?”

Voters placed 1,853 yes votes to 1,617 who voted no.

The same situation also occurred for the Lake Ozark Fire Protection District when they asked:

“Shall the Board of Directors of the Lake Ozark Fire Protection District be authorized to levy an additional tax of not more than thirty cents (.30) per one hundred dollars assessed valuation for the support of the District’s ambulance service.”

That passed in Camden County with 750 voting yes and 492 voting no. In Miller County the vote was 397 yes and 244 no.

Miller County – Unofficial results

The following Republicans won their primary since they ran unopposed

• Presiding Commissioner: Tom Wright (3,815 votes)
• County Clerk: Clinton Andrew Jenkens (3,831 votes)
• Recorder of Deeds: Deborah L. Wiles (3,827 votes)
• County Treasurer: Philip Lawson (3,824 votes)

Circuit Clerk (all are Republicans. There were no Democrat candidates on the primary ballot for this position).
Sheila Curtman – 2,503 votes
Jill Humphrey – 1,374 votes
Chuck Drace – 686 votes

Prosecuting Attorney
Incumbent Republican Ben Winfrey beat challenger Robert J. Seek with 2,986 votes to Seek’s 1,648.

There were no Democrat candidates on the ballot for this office.

Collector of Revenue
This office had four Republicans fighting it out, with incumbent William “Bill” Harvey winning.

• William “Bill” Harvey – 2,235 votes
• Debra June Nichols – 1,055 votes
• Gaylord McDaniel – 650 votes
• Tina Kasper – 626 votes

Morgan County (unofficial results)

Presiding Commissioner
• Republican Tony Stephens was running unopposed (he received 2,335 votes)
• Democrat James Vaughan also ran unopposed (he received 794 votes)

County Clerk
Incumbent Democrat Cathy Daniels ran unopposed (received 866 votes
Republican candidate Aimee Worthley also ran unopposed and brought in 2,176 votes.

They will battle it out in the November General Election.

Circuit Clerk
Republicans Monica Cable and Sherry Cummins faced off in the August primary with Cable receiving 1,457 votes and Cummins receiving 1,183 votes.

There were no Democrat candidates on the ballot for this office.

County Recorder
Republican Nancy Boles ran unopposed and brought in 2,376 votes

There were no Democrat candidates on the ballot for this office.

County Treasurer
Republican Kimberly Ingersoll was also the only name on the ballot for this position and she gathered 2,336 votes

There were no Democrat candidates on the ballot for this office.

The only names on the ballot for the following position won their primary:

• Prosecuting Attorney – Democrat Dustin Dunklee received 821 votes.
• Collector of Revenue – Democrat Kathy Francis received 857 votes.

State offices (unofficial results)

U.S. Representative - District 3 winners

• Republican Blaine Luetkemeyer (95,385 votes)
• Democrat Katy Geppert (55,815 votes
• Libertarian Donald V. Stolle (745 votes)

All three will face off in November for the position.

State Senator - District 16 winners

• Republican Justin Dan Brown (10,528 votes. Camdenton resident Diane Franklin brought in 9,243 votes but lost to Brown).
• Democrat Ryan Dillon, 6,009 votes.

Brown and Dillon will fight it out in November.

State Representative - District 123 winners

• Republican Suzie Pollock received 2,960 votes
• Democrat Joe Register brought in 1,057 votes

Pollock and register will face each other on the November ballot.

State Representative - District 124 winners

• Republican Rocky Miller (6,117 votes)
• Democrat Steve Dakopolos (1,490 votes.

These two will also face each other in the November election.

U.S. Senator

Eleven Republicans were running for this position with Josh Hawley easily beating the others with 389,006 votes.

Seven Democrats were also on the ballot for this position and incumbent Claire McCaskill won with 500,162 votes.

Libertarian candidate Japheth Campbell ran unopposed and received 5,357 votes.

Green party candidates Jo Crain and Jerome Bauer fought it out with Crain receiving 902 votes and Bauer gathering 666 votes.

Hawley, McCaskill, Crain and Campbell will face off in the November election.
