Man found dead in lake
LAKE OF THE OZARKS – A St. Louis man was found dead on the lake last Saturday.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP), Thomas Moore, 59, of St.
Louis, was driving a 2000 SeaDoo behind a family member’s boat at the 2.5 Mile
Marker of the Big Niangua in Camden County when the family member looked back
and noticed the Personal Watercraft (PWC) adrift with no rider.
Moore was found floating facedown in the water and was pronounced dead at the
scene by Steve Dugan, Camden County Medical Examiner. He was wearing a safety
device.
Last week was a week of PWC accidents starting on Sunday, August 4 when a Kansas
woman suffered serious injuries after impacting a vessel.
The MSHP said Amber Brown, 57, of Leawood, KS, was driving a 2008 Seadoo in
Forked Hollow Cove and attempting to negotiate waves when she failed to keep
control and impacted the watercraft.
She was transported to Lake Regional Hospital by Ambulance with serious
injuries. She was wearing a safety device at the time of the crash.
The majority of PWC accidents happened last Saturday, August 10.
The first one occurred at 12:20 p.m. at the eight mile marker of the Osage Arm –
Workmen Hollow Cove.
According to the MSHP, a 2009 Yamaha PWC, driven by Chad Kirksick, 42, of St.
Louis, MO, struck a wake causing him to strike his knee on the handlebars.
He was taken to Lake Regional Hospital with minor injuries. He was wearing
safety device.
At 2:30 p.m., at the 21 Mile Marker of the main channel, a 2002 Seadoo, driven
by Aaron Lee, 22, of Wichita, KS, encountered rough water causing the driver to
go airborne where he then impacted the PWC.
He received moderate injuries and was taken to Lake Regional Hospital, then by
private vehicle to University of Missouri Hospital. He was wearing a safety
device.
At 3:00 p.m., another accident involving a PWC sent a woman to the hospital with
serious injuries.
The MSHP said a 2017 Yamaha PWC, driven by William Watschinger, 49, of Scott Air
Force Base in Illinois, turned in front of a 2018 Avalon, driven by Michelle
Ray, 45, of Bonne Terre, MO, causing William and a passenger on the PWC, Ashley
Watschinger, 20, to be ejected from the PWC.
The Avalon attempted to avoid striking the two in the water but failed, hitting
Ashley.
She was taken to Lake Regional Hospital by Ambulance and then to University
Hospital by Air Ambulance with serious injuries. She was wearing a safety
device.
A boating accident on Sunday August 4 left six people, including two children,
uninjured in a collision with another boat.
According to the MSHP, a 2016 Hurricane SD2486, driven by Stephanie Guynn, 43,
of St. Louis, MO, was performing a docking maneuver at Jobson Hollow Cove, three
mile marker of the Osage Arm in Miller County, when she gave too much forward
throttle, ramping the vessel onto the dock’s center walkway and striking the bow
of a 2019 Cobalt 270.
The two children were wearing safety devices but none of the adults were. There
were no injuries in the accident.
The Hurricane received moderate damage while the Cobalt received minor damage.
The Cobalt was unoccupied at the time of the accident.
