Man dies in UTV accident


LAKE OF THE OZARKS – A Stover man is dead in a one-vehicle accident last Monday (August 5).

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) at 11:55 p.m. on Bee Sting Drive just south of Route BB, a 2012 Polaris Ranger UTV, driven by Dylan Rex, 33, of Stover, MO, was traveling southbound on Bee Sting Drive when the vehicle crossed the center line, traveled off the left side of the roadway where it struck a ditch and overturned.

Rex was taken to Lake Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 1:43 a.m. by Doctor Leach.

Rex was not wearing a safety device.

Earlier that same day (2:15 p.m.) a motorcycle versus car accident left two people with serious injuries.

The MSHP stated that a 2010 Harley Davidson, driven by Larry Melville, of Camdenton, MO, was southbound on Route 5 just north of Concrete Drive in Camden County, when a 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe, driven by Jeremy Umanos, 21, of Mundelein, IL, failed to yield to the motorcycle.

The Hyundai turned left into the path of the Harley and was struck by the motorcycle.

Larry Melville received serious injuries and was transported by MU Air to University Hospital.

A passenger on the motorcycle, Tina Melville, 56, also of Camdenton, MO, was transported to Lake Regional with serious injuries and then flown to University Hospital by MU Air.

The driver of the Hyundai was uninjured in the accident. The Hyundai received extensive damage and the Harley was totaled.

On Tuesday August 6, a deer encounter left a vehicle totaled and two people with minor injuries in Camden County.

At 12:00 p.m. on Route D south of Eagles Landing, a 2014 Hyundai Veloster was northbound when a deer appeared.

The Hyundai swerved to avoid a collision with the deer and ran off the right side of the road and overturned.

The driver, Robert Eaton, 24, of Camdenton, MO and a passenger, Allison Eaton, 22, also of Camdenton, MO, received minor injuries and were transported to Lake Regional by ambulance.

Both were wearing their safety devices. The Hyundai was totaled in the crash.
