Counterfeit money found at Eldon business

MILLER COUNTY – The Miller County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s assistance for any information on some counterfeit $20 bills discovered recently in Eldon.

The Sheriff’s office recovered the counterfeit currency that was passed at a local Eldon business.

The exact same type of counterfeit bills were discovered in Houston, TX in 2016 and were passed at the 24 Hour Tire on the South Beltway near Almeda Road. They have also been discovered at various other locations around the country.

A casual glance at the bill will show that something is wrong with it.

The number starts off normal but ends with Russian writing. Online sources say the word is in Cyrillic (Russian) and it means "Souvenir".

President Jackson’s name under his likeness has been replaced with the word “Cruger”.

On the reverse side of the bill the same Russian writing that’s on the front serial number can be found in the upper right corner of the bill.

In addition, under the picture of the White House it is supposed to say “White House.” That has been replaces by “DONETSK CITY”.

Donetsk City is in the Ukraine.

If you do receive a counterfeit bill, contact your local police department. It should also be noted that you will not be compensated for the fake money. So for example, if you receive a fake $20 bill, you are out $20. Passing it on or selling can land you in prison.

If anyone knows anything about this investigation, they are encouraged to contact detectives at the Miller County Sheriff’s Department at 573-369-2341 and refer to case # 20-00757MCSO.

“As always you may submit information and remain anonymous,” a sheriff’s department spokesman said. “Thanks in advance for any help!”
