Standoff leads to arrest
MILLER COUNTY – A man has been arrested after deputies responded to a possible hostage incident last Tuesday.
During the afternoon hours of May 26, deputies from the Miller County Sheriff’s Department (MCSD) received a 911 call in reference to a gunshot and a possible hostage incident that was developing on Foote Lane in Miller County.
During the initial investigation, officers learned from witnesses that an altercation had taken place and a female was allegedly pulled into a vehicle against her will.
In addition, a male suspect, identified as Roy Derecsky, was the one who fired a shot from a firearm and then fled the scene, according to the MCSD.
Deputies located the suspect and the female at another residence on Adams Road in Miller County where they made contact and eventually the female victim came out of the residence.
Derecsky refused to come out, the MCSD said.
The Missouri Highway Patrol Troop F Swat Team was requested and after multiple hours of trying to get Derecsky to peacefully come out, he finally surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident.
Deputies continued their investigation and said they seized a firearm and methamphetamine at the residence.
Derecsky was initially charged with a Class B Felony unlawful use of a weapon with additional charges pending. He is being held on a $50,000 bond in addition to other unrelated warrants from Camden County.
“The investigation is ongoing and I would like to thank the Missouri Highway Patrol for their assistance,” said Miller County Sheriff Louis Gregoire.
