Homicide investigation

MORGAN COUNTY – The Morgan County Sheriff’s Department (MCSD) has issued a press release to help alleviate the public’s concern in a homicide investigation.

On May 6, 2018, deputies from the MCSD responded to a 911 call of a male subject requesting immediate response to an ongoing assault on his wife. The male subject was not at the location of the assault but was requesting immediate assistance at a residence on Highway N in Stover.

Upon arriving at the scene, law enforcement heard the sound of a distraught female in the residence.

Deputies forced entry into the home and located a male subject unresponsive on the floor and a female subject in a hysterical state in an adjacent room.

The male subject, later identified as Thomas Chandler Sr., 79 of Stover, was pronounced dead after life saving procedures from Sheriff’s Deputies and EMS personnel were rendered ineffective.

The female subject was transported from the scene to a local hospital for treatment and later released.

An autopsy of the deceased was scheduled for May 8, but as of press time the results haD not been released. At this time the MCSD has no reason to believe that the public is in any danger as a result of this incident.

This investigation is ongoing.
