The week of one-vehicle accidents
LAKE OF THE OZARKS – Single-vehicle accidents were the norm in the lake area
last week and began with a man who was injured on a motorcycle near Stoutland.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) on Sunday February 3
around 1:53 p.m., a 2007 Harley Davidson, driven by Randal Smith, 64, of
Lebanon, MO, was northbound on Highway JJ three miles west of Stoutland when the
vehicle left the roadway, overturned and ejected Smith.
He was transported by Mercy Lifeline to Mercy Hospital in Springfield with
serious injuries. He was wearing a safety device. The motorcycle sustained minor
damage.
In other lake area accidents last week:
On Monday February 4, three people were injured in another one-vehicle accident
in Miller County.
At 5:00 p.m. on Route 42 east of Rock Quarry Road, a 1998 Ford Taurus, driven by
a 17-year-old male, was westbound when the automobile traveled off the right
side of the road, struck the ground and overturned.
The driver and a passenger, Kimberlee Stewart, 47, of Iberia, received minor
injuries and refused treatment.
Another passenger, a 16-year-old female, sustained moderate injuries and was
transported by ambulance to Lake Regional Hospital.
The MSHP said that Stewart was not wearing a safety device but the other two
were.
The next day (Tuesday February 5) a one-vehicle accident sent a woman to the
hospital with minor injuries.
According to the MSHP, a 2010 Toyota Corolla, driven by Katie Doudy, 23, of
Springfield, MO, was southbound on Highway 5 just south of Highway 54 in Camden
County when the vehicle struck a guardrail.
The MSHP stated that the vehicle was traveling too fast for the rainy
conditions.
She was transported to Lake Regional Hospital with minor injuries. She was
wearing a safety device.
Last Thursday two people were injured in an accident in Morgan County.
The MSHP said aAt 2:25 p.m. on Route W at Marvin Cutoff Road, a 1998 Ford
Ranger, driven by James Lutjen, 18, of Versailles, MO, was westbound when it
failed to stop at a stop sign.
The driver attempted to turn right when the vehicle began to skid and then
traveled off the left side of the road and overturned coming to rest on its side
in the ditch.
Lujten and a 17-year-old passenger, also from Versailles, received minor
injuries and refused medical attention. Neither was wearing their safety device.
The truck was listed as totaled.
