C.O.P.S. - Thank the police Jan. 9

CAMDEN COUNTY - On January 9, 2018, partnering organizations in support of law enforcement officers nationwide will promote a National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day (L.E.A.D.).

“In light of the continued negativity and violence directed toward law enforcement nationally, there is a need to show law enforcement officers that our citizens recognize the difficult and sometimes impossible career they have chosen, in public service to us all” a Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.) spokesman said. “Will you or your business help?”

C.O.P.S. has been contacting local businesses to get involved.

“Whether you donate food to be given to the departments, have your business send a thank you card, or any other way to show support, the officers that serve to protect our community will appreciate it,” the spokesman said.

Those citizens who appreciate law enforcement and are discouraged about the negative attention being given to law enforcement are encouraged to take time on Monday, January 9, to show their support, and there are a number of ways to do it:

• Wear blue clothing in support of law enforcement
• Send a card of support to your local police department or state agency
• Share a story about a positive law enforcement experience on social media
• Ask children to write letters in support of law enforcement
• Participate in Project Blue Light - Proudly display your blue light in support of law enforcement

Most importantly, if you see a police officer, thank a police officer.

“While we believe thanks and appreciation for America’s law enforcement should be given 365 days a year, we hope you will spend January 9th by joining the rest of the nation in ‘taking the L.E.A.D.’ and taking a stand to show your support for your local law enforcement officers,” said the spokesman.

To get involved, call the C.O.P.S. National Office at 573-346-4911
