Three injured in crash

LAKE OF THE OZARKS – Three people were taken to the hospital in a two-vehicle accident last Monday, January 9.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) at 6:10 p.m. on Highway 54 at Route MM in Miller County, a 2000 Pontiac Firebird, driven by Landon McKinley, 23, of Barnett, MO, was southbound when he attempted to make a U-turn on westbound Highway 54.

A northbound 2007 Toyota Camry, driven by Cody Jones, 32, of Eldon, MO, attempted to avoid the Firebird. The Firebird hit the Camry causing it to go off the left side of the road.

McKinley suffered moderate injuries and was taken by ambulance to Lake Regional Hospital in Osage Beach, MO. The MSHP said he was not wearing a seat belt.

Jones also suffered moderate injuries and was taken by ambulance to Lake Regional Hospital. He was wearing a seat belt.

A passenger in the Camry, Tiffany Fry, 31, also of Eldon, MO, received minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to Lake Regional Hospital. She was wearing a seat belt.

Both vehicles were totaled in the crash.

Earlier that morning a two vehicle accident sent one to the hospital and another one to jail.

At 10:52 a.m. on Highway 42 east of Kaiser Industrial Drive, a 2016 Honda CRV, driven by Sidney Horseman, 43, of  Kaiser, MO, was traveling west when he hit the rear of a towed unit that was being pulled by a 2020 Chevrolet 3500, driven by Brian Newlun, 59, of Osage Beach, MO.

The Honda went off the right side of the road and the front of the car hit a traffic sign, returned to the roadway, crossed the center of the road and went off the left side of the roadway.

A passenger in the Honda, Carolyn Sides, 57, of Camdenton, MO, suffered minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to Lake Regional Hospital.

All involved were wearing their seat belts and both vehicles had moderate damage.

At 11:31 a.m., Sidney Horseman was charged with the following:

  1. Leaving the Scene of an Accident – Property Damage Exceeding $1,000
  2. Resisting/Interfering With Arrest for a Felony
  3. Parole Violation – Possession of a Controlled Substance.

He was taken to the Miller County Jail.

Last Saturday, one person was injured while riding in a 2015 Polaris RZR.

According to the MSHP, at 2:00 p.m. on private property off of Highway 135 in Morgan County, Chad Hammond, 52, of Edwards, MO, was driving the Polaris east when he turned left and the Polaris overturned.

The passenger, Christina Jolly, 45, also of Edwards, MO, received minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to Lake Regional Hospital. Neither was wearing a safety device.  The vehicle had minor damage.

Despite the bad weather last Thursday, the MSHP did not report any accidents in Camden, Miller or Morgan Counties that day.
