Barnett man injured after hitting trees

LAKE OF THE OZARKS – A Barnett man suffered serious injuries in a one-vehicle accident last Thursday.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) at 12:05 p.m., Charles Pettipiece, 53, of Barnett, MO, was driving a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 north on Ivy Bend Road south of the Snider Drive south junction in Morgan County when the vehicle went off the right side of the road.

The driver overcorrected causing the vehicle to return to the road and go off the left side of the road where it hit an embankment and multiple trees before coming to a stop.

Pettipiece received serious injuries and was flown by MU Air Care to University of Missouri Hospital. The MSHP said he was not wearing a seat belt. The Silverado was totaled in the crash.

The day before, another single-vehicle accident left a woman with minor injuries.

At 11:06 a.m., Susan Sullivan, 38, of Gravois Mills, MO, was eastbound on Camellia Road at Proctor Road in Morgan County in a 2009 Ford F150 when the vehicle traveled through the intersection, exited the east side of the road and hit an embankment.

She was taken by EMS to Lake Regional Hospital with minor injuries. She was not wearing a seat belt. The truck had moderate damage.

Last Monday (November 6) a juvenile escaped serious injuries in an encounter with a truck.

According to the MSHP, a 2002 Dodge Ram, driven by Jason Draffen, 36, of Versailles, MO, was traveling west on Route C west of Belleville Drive in Morgan County when the driver attempted to avoid a 15-year-old female juvenile on a bicycle going the same direction.

The passenger side mirror hit the bicycle.

The juvenile had minor injuries and was treated at the scene. The Ram had minor damage.

A three-vehicle accident last Friday sent three to the hospital.

At 10:53 a.m. on Highway 5 at Route HH in Morgan County, a 2010 Forde Edge, driven by Miranda Jones, 31, of Centerview, MO, was northbound when the vehicle hit another northbound vehicle, a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by Brian Dorsey, 48, of Versailles, MO.

Both vehicles crossed the centerline and the Ford Edge hit a sign and overturned. A southbound 2024 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by Robert Young, 65, of Sedalia, MO, hit the 2010 Silverado.

Dorsey had serious injuries and was taken by ambulance to Capitol Region Hospital. He was not wearing a seat belt.

Robert Young suffered minor injuries and was taken to Lake Regional Hospital. He was wearing a seat belt.

A passenger in 2024 Silverado, Lisa Young, 63, of Versailles, MO, received moderate injuries and was also taken Lake Regional Hospital. She was wearing a seat belt.

All three vehicles were totaled in the accident.
The week ended last Saturday with a single vehicle accident in Miller County.

The MSHP reported that a 1999 Polaris Sportsman 500 was being driven south on Elm Springs Road south of Brays Church Road at 9:00 p.m. by James Brumgard, Jr., 56, of Luebbering, MO.

The vehicle attempted to make a left turn and overturned ejecting the driver and an occupant, Dustin Hurst, 26, of Iberia, MO.

Brumgard had serious injuries and was transported by MU Air Care to University Hospital. He was not wearing a safety device.

Hurst had minor injuries and was treated at the scene. He also was not wearing a safety device. The Polaris had extensive damage.

At 9:38 p.m., James Brumgard, Jr. was charged with the following:

  1. Felony DWI – Alcohol – Physical Injury
  2. Felony DWI – Habitual Offender
  3. Felony Driving While Revoked/Suspended
  4. Operate a Vehicle in a Careless and Imprudent Manner
  5. Unlawfully Operate ATV on Highway.

He was released for medical treatment.
