Two Richland men arrested for theft from vehicles

CAMDEN COUNTY – Two Richland men have landed behind bars after a disturbance call led to theft charges.

On October 4 at 2:39 a.m., a deputy from the Camden County Sheriff’s Department (CCSD) responded to a disturbance at a residence on Lake Park.

According to the CCSD, an owner of a vehicle discovered that a subject, Austin Tabor, 20, of Richland, had unlawfully entered the home owner’s vehicle and was stealing property found inside it.

Tabor was arrested and charged with two misdemeanor counts of Possession of Marijuana, two counts of a Class D Felony Stealing, one count Class A Misdemeanor Stealing and one count Class D Misdemeanor Stealing. Tabor posted a $2,000 bond.

Also arrested was Phillip Wayne Carter, 20 of Richland, who the CCSD said is an accomplice in the attempted theft.

Carter was charged with one count Class D Felony stealing, one count Class D Felony Receiving Stolen Property, one count Class A Misdemeanor Stealing, and three counts Class D Misdemeanor Stealing. He was held on a cash bond of $3,000.

The CCSD said Tabor and Carter are related to what has turned out to be an abundance of thefts from motor vehicles by various individuals.

The Camden County Sheriff’s Department has taken approximately 12,545 calls for service since August 2017. Of those calls for service there were approximately 61 Burglary Reports, 122 Stealing Reports, multiple Vehicle Tampering Reports and 18 Vehicle Theft Reports.

The majority of the burglaries have occurred in the Climax Springs and Edwards communities of Camden County and have extended into Benton County.

“It was admitted to investigators that over 200 vehicles have been unlawfully entered,” a CCSD spokesman said.

More arrests are pending and the investigation continues, according to the sheriff’s Department.

“Many of these crimes are preventable by properly securing your vehicle and home,” said the spokesman.
