MCCKC seeks help for kids

MORGAN COUNTY – The Morgan County Caring for Kids Coalition (MCCKC) wants every child in every family in Morgan County to have a joyful Christmas to celebrate in the spirit of the season.

This seems like a simple wish, but for many children who live in Morgan County this is not a reality.

The MCCKC invites the public to help them provide a Christmas for children and families in need in Morgan County. This is a need based on poverty guidelines or emergency needs.

Last year, with the support of many individuals and organizations, MCCKC was able to provide gifts more than 750 children.

There are various ways the public can help:

• Monetary donations to purchase new toys/gifts for children not adopted.
• Adopt one or more families to provide gifts for the children and, perhaps, even Christmas dinner for the family.
• Donate your time helping to set-up for the gift distribution or work that day as an “elf” helping parents select age-appropriate gifts for their children. Set-up is Monday Dec. 11 – Wednesday December 13. Distribution is Thursday Dec. 14, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the First Assembly of God Church, Versailles.
• Encourage your club, group, church and family members to adopt or make a donation.
• Encourage those you may know who have a need to register between Wednesday, November 1 and Friday, December 8 at the Family Support Division (703 N Monroe) or the Morgan Co. Health Center (104 W Lafayette) in Versailles during normal business hours.

Adoption and Giving Guidelines

• Toys for younger children, age-appropriate gifts for older children. MCCKC strives to provide at least three new toys/gifts (small, medium and large) valued at a total of $50-$65.
• Gently used toys, other gifts and household items are also offered to families separate from the new gift distribution. Gift wrap, ribbon, tissue paper, gift bags, Christmas decorations, etc. are also welcome.
• Toys/gifts donated for the MCCKC distribution should be unwrapped. Parents need to be able to select what they feel their children would like.
• Adopters may deliver directly to the family or arrange to drop off their gifts at the church on Monday, December 11 all day, Tuesday, December 13, 2 p.m. – 7 p.m. for the family to pick up. (If people need other drop off times they can contact Becky).
• MCCKC will advise families that they are adopted, by whom (unless you wish to remain anonymous) and whether they are to pick up from MCCKC or you will deliver.
