Stoutland man dies in accident

LAKE OF THE OZARKS – A Stoutland man is dead in a one-vehicle accident last week in Camden County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) last Tuesday (September 25) around 9:20 p.m., a 1990 Toyota pickup, driven by Cecil Gideon, 68, of Stoutland, MO, was traveling north on Route T approximately one-half mile north of Davis Road when the vehicle crossed the center line and ran off the left side of the road and struck a tree.

Gideon was pronounced dead at the scene by Camden County Medical Examiner Dee Ballard.

The MSHP said Gideon was not wearing a safety device.

This was Troop F’s 10th fatality for September and the 57th for this year.

In other accidents last week:

On the Sunday before the fatality, an Iberia man suffered moderate injuries in a one-vehicle accident.

Around 4:15 a.m., a 2008 Ford Focus, driven by Zachary Pemberton, 23, of Iberia, MO, was eastbound on Highway 42, 301 feet west of Main Street in Brumley when, according to the MSHP, he fell asleep.

The vehicle then traveled off the left side of the road and overturned.

Pemberton was transported to Lake Regional Hospital by the Miller County Sheriff’s Department. He was wearing a safety device.

Later that day at 8:07 p.m., another one-vehicle accident sent a man to the hospital.

According to the MSHP, a 1996 Ford Explorer, driven by James Anderson, 75, of Independence, MO, was traveling south on Ivey Bend Road, 58 feet south of North Ivey Bend Road north junction, in Morgan County, when the vehicle failed to negotiate a curve, traveled off the left side of the roadway and struck several trees before stopping.

Anderson suffered moderate injuries and was transported by EMS to Lake Regional Hospital. He was wearing a safety device.

Last Thursday a motorcycle-car accident sent a man to the hospital.

At 3:20 p.m. at 639 Route EE in Miller County, the MSHP said a 2012 Subaru Impreza, driven by Sandilin McGee, 40, of Iberia, MO, drove into the path of a 2007 Harley Davidson motorcycle, driven by Matthew Schubert, 30, of Dixon, MO.

The motorcycle then struck the Subaru. Schubert received moderate injuries and was transported by Staff for Life to University Hospital. Both drivers were wearing their safety devices.
